Launch of the vaccination campaign against COVID-19 in Goma, North Kivu province, with the vaccines received through the COVAX initiative.Nurse Jeanne Dusungu, gives out a vaccine at the Provincial Hospital, Goma. She says, "If the people are not vaccinated, firstly there will be massive contamination. Lots of people will get ill, we will contaminate one another, family to family, father to child, at work, I can contaminate people if I am not vaccinated. When I arrive at home then I’ll contaminate my child, my husband, my entourage. If I am Christian and I go to church and I am contaminated, I can contaminate everyone there. Those I speak to, those I greet, they will all be contaminated. All of us will, if we do not get vaccinated."DR Congo received 1.7 million doses through COVAX in early March. The initial aim is to vaccinate 20 per cent of the population, including health workers (who represent 1 per cent of the population), people aged over 55 (6 per cent of the population) and people suffering from serious health conditions such as kidney disease, high blood pressure or diabetes (13 per cent of the population). UNICEF is helping with the logistics of delivering the vaccines including the transport of injection materials and protection materials. The UN children’s agency will also ensure the quality and security of the cold chain and vaccine storage.View more with similar tones © UNICEF/UN0460889/Acland2021COUNTRIES:Congo, Democratic Republic of theUnique identifier:UN0460889Source name:Olivia AclandDocument Date:May 06, 2021Download document informationDownloadShareIn-house Identifier:DSC_5409File Import date:May 11, 2021UNICEF Office:Congo, Democratic Republic of theSize:5596px × 3683px (~58 MB)Color:ColorFile type:jpgParent folder:BBC - Goma vaccine rolloutRelated Assets:View All
